Final Thoughts:

Jacilyn: I’ll start with this - I think I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite book club books we’ve ever read, and certainly the best out of the books that were new to me. Black Sun is a truly unique epic fantasy that celebrates the influence of Pre-Columbian native cultures in the Americas. There’s enough romantic tension to scratch that itch, but that’s not the main focus. The author’s ability to bounce between perspectives and timeframes was easy to follow, thanks to the chapter headings, and kept up the suspense of the story as we got closer and closer until the day at the end of the book. I’ve been recommending this book to every fantasy-lover I know!

Michaela: This is one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. Roanhorse takes epic fantasy to a whole new level and takes us on a journey through Pre-Columbian native cultures, something the world is sorely missing. The main characters are emotionally complex and I found that I cared for all of them deeply by the end of this book. I bought the sequel to Black Sun before I was even halfway through because it held that much promise. Roanhorse’s writing is amazing and I would recommend this book to anyone who says they love fantasy!
