D-Day Girls: Final Thoughts *Spoiler Free*

Now that we have finished reading D-Day Girls by Sarah Rose and taken the time to let it all *sink in*, we’re going to share our final thoughts on the book as a whole. Our goal is not to review the book, per se, but we will be sharing what we liked and disliked.

Spoiler Free!!! This book is a historical non-fiction, there are no spoilers for history but please be aware of the trigger warnings listed below.

Trigger Warnings!!!This book contains situations and subjects related to: war, sexism, death, anti-Semitism, racism, white supremacy, murder, torture, prison, rape, concentration camps, suicidal ideation, cannibalism, and illness.

Our Thoughts:

This book was a tough read for both of us. The subject matter was on one hand fascinating and on the other emotional and tragic at times. We want you all to know that if you are planning to read this book please be aware that this is about real women in real danger during a horrifying war. While there is excitement with exploding train lines and cutting communication lines, there is also scenes of torture, imprisonment, and stressful situations. We loved Sarah Rose's writing, though it took us a second to adjust to reading non-fiction (we at Shelf-Explored Book Club are primarily fiction readers). She made it read much more like a narrative, which was very helpful for us and easier to read than other non-fiction writing styles. Learning about the women who fought in World War II was amazing and we love that we gained this knowledge. But non-fiction is still not our cup of tea.
