Final Thoughts:
Jacilyn: We chose this book looking for a murder mystery that kept us guessing, but I'm not sure it scratched that itch for me. The premise of the story, a book club involved with murder, is interesting, but I didn't find any of the characters interesting or likeable and that made it difficult to get invested in the story.
The "good guys'' of the story both seem like misogynists, and I truly cannot imagine reading an entire series based on their handling of cases. The story included an unnecessary emphasis on fatphobic and cruelly judgmental observations that left me feeling yucky. I just cannot say that I enjoyed this book, friends.
Michaela: This book was not my favorite, friends. I was really excited about the premise but it was definitely a struggle to read as far as stories go. The book itself is really short but it felt like there was a lot of filler story that didn’t really pertain to the mystery. I suppose what I’ve learned is that I prefer a different kind of murder mystery than what this book gave me.
Also, the language used in this book was problematic in a few ways. It was definitely fatphobic and I honestly could not tell if it was the characters or the author. So just a note of caution there. This is why we explore. Sometimes we love new books but sometimes we get a miss and that’s okay. Remember just because you don’t like a book doesn’t make it bad, it just means it wasn’t for you.
