One of Us is Lying: Final Thoughts

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

Now that we have finished reading One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus and taken the time to let it all *sink in*, we’re going to share our final thoughts on the book as a whole. Our goal is not to review the book, per se, but we will be sharing what we liked and disliked.

Spoiler Free! This post is our general opinions about this book, not a professional review, and contains no spoilers for One of Us is Lying.

Jacilyn: I loved One of Us is Lying. There are so many dynamic, relatable characters, even as an adult who has been out of high school for 7 years. I have often had troubles reading books that jump back and forth between perspectives because storylines can easily become jumbled and confusing, but the pieces of this story and each characters’ commentary fit together like a puzzle and added an extra element of suspense. Plus, it gave me an opportunity to get on my soapbox about police tactics and wrongful convictions. Nate is definitely my favorite character. I could relate to him in a lot of ways.

Michaela: One of Us is Lying was amazing. I loved it. As much as I was trying to guess the outcome I never truly knew where the story was heading. I never felt like it was predictable or cheesy like many YA novels can be. So many of the characters were relatable and were dealing with real world things which made everything more believable and more enjoyable since I related to some of the main characters. At first I thought jumping between different points of view would be confusing but the author does a wonderful job of giving each character a distinct voice. Watching the characters interact and the story grow was beautiful.
