Hello friends! October's book is the young adult mystery One of Us Lying by Karen M. McManus. In this book we follow five students at Bayview High into detention but only four leave alive. One of the students dies before the end of detention, that student is Simon, who just so happens to be planning to release a juicy blog post the next
day about the other four high-profile students in detention. Those four become suspects in his murder. Who did it?
Everyone has secrets? But who's is worth killing for?
Pay close attention and you might solve the mystery. Let's follow:
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect
homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Pre-Read Thoughts:
Michaela: I'm pretty excited for this book. I don't usually read young adult fiction in this genre, I'm usually a supernatural romance kind of person when it comes to YA. This seems to be a combination of Pretty Little Liars and the Breakfast Club, which I am here for. All the way. I just love high school drama stories and throw in some murder mystery, it's like whipped cream on top of my hot chocolate people. However, I do hope the book doesn't seem to be too cheesy or too unrealistic because that's when these kind of stories really start to lose me. But overall I'm very intrigued by the concept.
Jacilyn: This book has been on my to read list for… years. I think I’ve checked it out from my library at least four times, and just never end up being able to get to it. So this is a title I’m especially looking forward to. I’ve heard that this book uses unreliable narration, which is something I’ve really enjoyed in books ever since reading Gone Girl. I really enjoy trying to unravel the mystery of something myself while I read, and questioning everything the narrators say. This book is narrated by four different people, so that bumps it up a notch! I also think this book is a nice palette cleanser, a completely different genre than we’ve read so far.
