Final Thoughts:

Michaela: I love the concept of this fairytale retelling. It's so interesting and fun. As a reader I don't always like the writing styles of YA literature and this book was not an exception to that but even so I still did really enjoy the story and the characters. We get to see multiple interpretations and representations of different fairytale characters. It starts out slow to build the story and the world we get thrown into but it picks up quickly. For me this is a very fun read that I feel like going back to when I want something fantasy that's just a good time.

Jacilyn: The Evil Queen is definitely a book that will appeal to fans of fairytales and retellings. This one has a little bit of YA spice to it, and at times feels a little too YA tropey for my tastes at this point in my life, but that’s unsurprising considering this was one of Showalter’s first YA book. Expect to find some morally complex characters, a ton of different kinds of magic and magical beings, and a world containing multitudes of fairytales.
